Session Description | Unlike large open seas, marginal deep sea basins receive thick sediments that well record regional tectonic events and provenance changes. In recent years, numerous IODP expeditions and extensive geophysical surveys have been carried out in the western Pacific, an region teemed with marginal basins showing strong land-ocean interactions. These research activities revealed very interesting and diverse deep marine depositional features and opened new opportunities to better understand deep ocean dynamics using both physical and numerical modeling. This session invite contributions from sedimentologists, physical oceanographers, geophysicists, and numerical modelers, and will focus on multidisciplinary understanding of deep marine sedimentation processes and how they responded to a complex context of continental margin tectonics. |
