Session Description | The past decade has witnessed great advances in observation technology, modeling and data assimilation capabilities. Data assimilation and forecasting products based on numerical ocean models have being widely used by a variety of applications ranging from guiding maritime transportation, planning recreational activities, and supporting hazard and emergency responses. This session will provide a forum for methodologies, applications and assessments of oceanic data assimilation and forecasting systems. Abstracts from the following key areas are encouraged: 1. Developments and original applications of data assimilation methodologies; 2. Developments and assessments of real-time forecasting systems of ocean environments with data assimilation; 3. Generation and validation of high-resolution oceanic reanalysis datasets; 4. Developments of uncertainty quantification and sensitivity analyses methods; 5. Coupled data assimilation, including ocean-atmosphere and ocean-biogeochemical systems; 6. Adaptive observations and optimization of model parameters: progress in methodology and application; 7. Tools and metrics for data assimilation and forecast performance. |
