Session Title | Indian Ocean Variability And The Impact On The Asian Monsoon And Regional Climate |
Main Convener | Prof. Yan Du (Chinese Academy of Sciences, China) |
Co-convener(s) | Dr. Jasti Chowdary (Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, India) Dr. Tomoki Tozuka (The University of Tokyo, Japan) Dr. Ming Feng (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, Australia) Prof. Shang-Ping Xie (University of California, San Diego, United States) |
Session Description | The tropical Indian Ocean (TIO) shows a robust surface warming for recent decades. Superimposed on this trend, TIO features interannual to inter-decadal variability. Recent studies show that TIO variability affects, through local air-sea interaction and teleconnection, the Indian and East Asian monsoon systems. Therefore it is essential to understand the TIO dynamics and the relationship to regional climate on different time scales. This session welcomes papers on Indian Ocean climate variability, air-sea interaction, and ocean dynamics. |
