Session Title Geodetic Observations And Applications In Earth Sciences And Natural Hazards
Main Convener Prof. Shuanggen Jin (Shanghai Astronomical Observatory of Chinese Academy of Sciences, China)
Co-convener(s) Prof. Harald Schuh (Helmholtz Centre Potsdam GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences, Germany)
Prof. Cheinway Hwang (Wuhan University, Taiwan)
Session Description Nowadays, space geodetic techniques, including GNSS, SLR, VLBI, DORIS, InSAR, Satellite Altimetry and Satellite Gravimetry, are capable of measuring and monitoring small changes of Earth’s surface and interior mass with high accuracy and spatial-temporal resolution, particularly increasingly dense GNSS and VLBI networks in Asia-Oceania. These provide a unique opportunity to investigate atmospheric variations, crustal deformation, hydrological cycle, sea level change, Earth Rotation and mass transport in the Earth’s interior as well as identification, assessment, prediction, and early warning of natural hazards. This session, which is co-sponsored by IAG and GGOS, will discuss current developmen of geodetic techniques, highlight existing/planned networks and data products, and present recent results and new applications in Earth sciences and natural hazards, e.g., near-real-time and high-rate geodetic applications in meteorology, volcano, earthquake and tsunami warning. Papers on combining space geodetic datawith in-situ measurements and future geodetic missions are also welcome.
