Session Title Terrestrial Heat Flow and Geothermal Energy in Asia and Oceania
Main Convener Dr. Shaopeng Huang (Xi'an Jiaotong University, China)
Co-convener(s) Prof. Lijuan He (Institute of Geology and Geophysics of Chinese Academy of Sciences, China)
Dr. Sukanta Roy (CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute, India)
Dr. Beardsmore Graem (Hot Dry Rocks Pty Ltd, Australia)
Session Description Terrestrial heat flow density (or heat flow in short) is a measure of the energy flux from the interior of the Earth. It carries rich information not only about the energy budget, tectonic history, thermal structure of the lithosphere, bulk chemical composition of the crust, and climate change in the past, but also about the availability of geothermal resources that can be tapped to help sustain economic development and social stability in countries around the world. The purpose of this session is to bring together scientists, engineers, and students to discuss the recent progresses and issues in both theoretical and applied geothermal researches in this region.
