Session Description Clouds play a crucial role in Earth’s hydrological cycle and radiation budget. Representation of clouds in climate models remains as one of the largest uncertainties in predictions of future climate. Significant efforts are being taken to improve the simulation of clouds in mutli-scale models, including single column model, cloud resolving model and general circulation model. Long-term accurate cloud observations are a must for evaluating and improving cloud parameterizations within these models.

To improve the representation of clouds within models, both updated parameterization schemes in models and advance of our understanding to clouds and their processes from observations, as well as accurate cloud datasets, are essential. This session invites papers on 1) Development of cloud representation in models, 2) Cloud observations and analyses, and 3) Model simulations and diagnosis.
