Session Title Extreme Weather Events
Main Convener Prof. C.G. Cui (China Meteorological Administration, China)
Co-convener(s) Prof. Xiquan Dong (University of North Dakota, United States)
Session Description Extreme weather events are a class of events which conditions seriously deviation from the average condition, and occurred statistically difficult. More simply, extreme weather events mean small probability (once in 50-year or 100-year) events. With global warming, extreme weather events present an increasing and strengthening trend, especially of heavy rainfall, extreme high temperature, heat wave and so on. These are huge threat factors to the people's life and property. In order to improve monitoring and warning capability of extreme weather events, especially of strong typhoon and regional rainstorm, flash flood, the research of atmospheric circulation condition and formation mechanism of extreme weather events, the evaluation of numerical model forecasting ability for extreme weather events are very necessary. So I bring forth the extreme weather events as a session. The main subjects are as followed.
1, Climatic and statistical analysis of extreme weather events
2, Weather condition analysis of extreme weather events
3, Formation mechanism research of extreme weather events
4, Typical case study of extreme weather events
5, Numerical simulation research of extreme weather events
6, Nowcasting, monitoring and warning methods study of extreme weather events
