Session Description Greenhouse gas (GHG) build-up in the atmosphere depends on the rate of emission and the rate of uptake by other components in the Earth System. About half of the anthropogenic carbon dioxide (CO2) has been absorbed by the land and ocean. World soils preserve a large amount of carbon, thus play a big role in the global carbon cycle. Particularly, carbon storage in world agricultural soils has a great potential for mitigating climate change. However, the efficiency of carbon sequestration in agricultural systems is regulated by various factors. Land use and land management such as fertilization and tillage have a profound impact on the carbon storage and GHGs emission. This workshop provides a forum for discussions of relevant research outcomes. Topics include, but are not limited to 1) changes and fluxes of major carbon pools in biosphere and pedosphere due to land use change and farming managements, 2) interactions of carbon and nitrogen within agricultural ecosystems, 3) terrestrial carbon cycle modelling, and 4) use of novel technologies including isotope techniques in the studies of carbon cycling. We encourage contributions based on experimental, observational and modeling studies.
