Session Description Water, energy and food are essential for human well-being. Human society is claiming more natural resources and at the same time, faces problem of resources scarcity and environmental degradation. There is an increasing competition for resources among water, energy and agriculture sectors as demand grows. Increasing socio-economic development and climate change will put further pressure on water, as well as agricultural and energy sectors. Understanding the complex relationships between water, energy and food is becoming critically important to sustainable development. This session invites abstracts on the Water-Energy-Food Nexus (WEF Nexus). The topics include but not limit to 1) the synergies and tradeoffs between water, energy and food security; 2) implications for integrated water resources management to maintain a balance with aspects of energy and food security; 3) technological and institutional solutions for WEF systems; 4) the WEF Nexus across local to global scales; 5) scenario development of WEF systems under changing environments; 6) development of new modeling frameworks or analysis of observations identifying hotspots in water-food-energy security.
