Session Description | Numerical modeling and observations are indispensable for our understanding of regional oceanic processes. Recent efforts in regional oceanic modeling have progressed into new directions: higher resolution, current-wave-wind interaction, multiple-level online nesting, regional response to climate change and so on and so forth. The use of computing cloud has also added exciting momentum to the field. The requirement for improving a regional oceanic model is more accurate inputs of momentum, heat and freshwater at the surface and along lateral boundaries. Both the assessment of the model results and improvements of initial and boundary conditions demand the systematic development of regional observational systems. This session welcomes abstracts on all aspects of oceanic numerical modeling and remote sensing and in-situ observational data analyses in regional oceans, including wave, wind and currents, as well as the assimilation of observational data into the model. |
