Session Description | Indo-Pacific climate variability such as ENSO (including its diversity), the IOD, and the Indian Ocean Basin mode exerts substantial impacts on extreme weathers, agriculture and ecosystems, but our understanding of their dynamics, interaction among them, with monsoon, and with decadal time scale variability, their regional teleconnection, and their likely change under greenhouse warming, remains incomplete. Recent progress has revealed several important manifestations in terms of salinity anomalies and hydrological indicators, and in terms of regional climatic modes such as Ningaloo Niño and California Niño. This session provides an avenue for researchers to show case their latest discoveries and to exchange with their international peers. We welcome abstract submissions on these topics, particularly on advances and further insights gained from the most recent El Niño, La Niña, and the IOD events. |
