Session Title ULF, ELF, and VLF Waves and Their Effects on Particles in the Inner Magnetosphere
Main Convener Dr. Yuto Katoh (Tohoku University, Japan)
Co-convener(s) Dr. Xin Tao (University of Science and Technology of China, China)
Dr. Lunjin Chen (University of Texas at Dallas, United States)
Dr. Eun-Hwa Kim (Princeton University, United States)
Session Description Wave-particle interactions play a fundamental role in transferring energies between different populations of particles. Different modes of plasma waves -- ULF waves, whistler-mode chorus, hiss, magnetosonic waves, EMIC waves, etc -- play key roles in dynamics of radiation belt and ring current particles. Understanding the generation mechanism, the global distribution, and their interaction with charged particles is crucial to the dynamics of energetic particles. We invite presentations on recent progress about the generation mechanisms of different plasma waves, the wave particle interaction process and their effects on energetic particles in the inner magnetosphere. Contributions from all relevant fields, including theoretical studies, numerical modeling, data analysis and laboratory experiments, are welcome.
