Co-convener(s) | Prof. Dake Chen (State Oceanic Administration, China) Dr. Youmin Tang (State Oceanic Administration, China) |
Session Description | ENSO (El Nino and Southern Oscillation) and IOD(Indian Ocean Dipole)are the strongest sources of interannual climate variability in the tropical Pacific and the tropical Indian Ocean, and strongly impact global climate system, particularly to the Indian subcontinent and monsoon system. This session will cover all contributions related to ENSO, IOD and variability in circulation pattern during monsoon assocaited with them. It is believed that this session can attract a number of ENSO/IOD-related researchers. Specific topics include 1) Dynamics and predictions of ENSO and IOD 2) Impact of ENSO and IOD worldwide 3) Variability of rainfall pattern associated with ENSO and IOD and the mechanism responsible for the variability. 4) Extreme rainfall events during southwest and northeast monsoon seasons associated with the ENSO and IOD and possible mechanisms. |
