Session Title | Hydroclimate Variation in the Tropical Indo-pacific Since the Late Pleistocene |
Main Convener | Dr. Hong-Wei Chiang (National Taiwan University, Taiwan) |
Co-convener(s) | Dr. Liangcheng Tan (Chinese Academy of Sciences, China) Dr. Xianfeng Wang (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore) |
Session Description | The tropical Indo-Pacific plays a central role in global moisture and heat budgets through the Hadley and Walker circulations. Hydroclimate variation in the region is however notoriously complex, involving multiple phenomena such as Asian-Australian monsoons, the El Ninõ-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and the Indian Ocean dipole (IOD). Any reasonable predictions on its future behavior and its global manifestations have to be based upon a good understanding of the past hydroclimate history in the tropical Indo-Pacific. We hereby in this session invite contributions on hydroclimate reconstructions in the tropical Indo-Pacific, over the late Pleistocene and Holocene, by using archive data derived from marine and lake sediments, speleothems, corals, tree rings, and among others. We also welcome submissions on model simulations on regional hydroclimate, particularly those on proxy-model syntheses that explore physical mechanisms. |
