Session Description | This session has been a part of the annual AOGS meeting since 2008, which covers all the subjects of dynamics, physics and chemistry of the middle atmosphere with time scales from weather to climate. Observations and data analyses, numerical experiments, and theoretical studies on the middle atmosphere are all solicited. Research topics include (but are not limited to): - Processes in the mesosphere and lower thermosphere (MLT) and their interactions with stratosphere - Stratosphere-troposphere coupling in the tropics or the extratropics, and tropics-extratropics teleconnections - Dynamics, chemistry, and microphysics in the tropical tropopause layer (TTL) or the extratropical upper troposphere-lower stratosphere (UTLS) - Weather and climate, in particular intra-seasonal and inter-annual variations, and long-term change, in middle atmosphere - Extreme events in past, present, and future climates - Multiple-scale transport and mixing of trace gases - Stratospheric chemistry and ozone recovery - Solar influences on the middle atmosphere through solar radiation variations and high-energy particle precipitation - Observations, modeling and parameterization of gravity waves - Coupled chemistry-climate modeling - Data assimilation in the middle atmosphere We particularly encourage papers related to the new results that will provide new insights into the middle atmosphere science, and we hope the session to become a platform for international scientific communities to discuss their current issues and future projections. |
