Session Title Cycling of Carbon and Nitrogen in Terrestrial and Coastal Ecosystems
Main Convener Dr. Punyasloke Bhadury (Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata, India)
Co-convener(s) Dr. Ajcharaporn Piumsomboon (Chulalongkorn University, Thailand)
Session Description Terrestrial and coastal ecosystems hold the cue to global cycling of elements, in particular carbon and nitrogen cycling. Numerous factors including redox conditions, energy sources, biological communities and niche specificity tend to control carbon and nitrogen cycling in land as well as land-ocean boundaries. Submissions are encouraged investigating aspects of research dealing with carbon and nitrogen cycling in terrestrial domains (e.g. agricultural lands, forest ecosystems), coastal domains (e.g. estuaries, lagoons, mangroves) including coastal water as well as on the specific role of biological communities including microbial communities such as archaea, bacteria and fungi. Submissions are sought from biogeochemists, ecosystem modellers, microbiologists and molecular biologists working in the above areas. In particular, submissions from early career scientists are strongly encouraged.
