Session Title Seismic Modelling and Imaging: from Global to Local Scales
Main Convener Dr. Ping Tong (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore)
Co-convener(s) Dr. Shengji Wei (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore)
Prof. Xu Yang (University of California, Santa Barbara, United States)
Dr. Chin-Wu Chen (National Taiwan University, Taiwan)
Session Description Recent development in seismic modelling techniques makes it possible to accurately account for wave propagation in the complex Earth model. This has greatly contributed to seismic imaging and earthquake source studies. High-resolution images of the Earth provide us critical information about locating earthquake sources, imaging earthquake rupture process, determining volcanic magma chamber dimension as well as providing insights for core, mantle and plate tectonic processes. In industry, these images contain important information about the location and dimension of the groundwater/oil/gas/geothermal reservoirs and ore bodies. This session aims to bring together new developments in seismic modelling and imaging techniques on a variety of scales ranging from the global to local scale structures of the Earth. Special emphasis is given to topics on the development and application of new modelling and imaging methods. Presentations highlighting new geologic/tectonic insights gained from new modelling and imaging approaches are also highly encouraged.
