Session Title | Energy Dissipation and Conversion in Space Plasmas |
Main Convener | Dr. Anthony Lui (Johns Hopkins University, United States) |
Co-convener(s) | Dr. Z. H. Yao (University of Liege, Belgium) |
Session Description | A fundamental topic in space plasma research is to identify processes that allow significant energy dissipation and energy conversion from one form to another. Various candidate processes have been proposed in the literature. Among them are magnetic reconnection and kinetic plasma instabilities that lead to current disruption and current redistribution, as well as auroral processes. With the ever-increasing sophistication of space measurements and numerical modeling, it is timely to focus on progress made through these new advances. This session solicits presentations of research that may shed lights on the topic in all space plasma regions from the Earth’s ionosphere and magnetosphere to other planetary ionospheric and magnetospheric systems. |
