Session Title | Evolution and Effects of Large Solar Transients Throughout Geospace and the Heliosphere |
Main Convener | Dr. John Richardson (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, United States) |
Co-convener(s) | Prof. Chi Wang (Chinese Academy of Sciences, China) Dr. Iver Cairns (University of Sydney, Australia) |
Session Description | The Sun propels large amounts of mass and energy through the solar system in coronal mass ejections (CMEs) and their interplanetary counterparts (ICMEs). These events interact with each other, with the ambient solar wind, with planets and their magnetospheres, and with the local interstellar medium (LISM). They produce the largest space weather events on Earth and continue to produce effects throughout the heliosphere and into the LISM where they drive shocks which produce energetic particles and radio emissions. This session invites contributions on the evolution and effects of these large solar transients at Earth, throughout the heliosphere, and beyond. |
