Session Title Remote Sensing of Essential Climate Variables and Its Applications
Main Convener Dr. Wei Yang (Chiba University, Japan)
Co-convener(s) Dr. Hideki Kobayashi (Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology, Japan)
Dr. Xin Cao (Beijing Normal University, China)
Dr. Xiaolin Zhu (The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong SAR)
Session Description The term of Essential Climate Variables (ECVs) was proposed by Global Climate Observing System (GCOS), referring to the biophysical and biogeochemical properties of atmosphere, oceans and terrestrials that may affect the climate changes, like aerosol optical depth, sea surface temperatures, chlorophyll concentrations, lake surface areas, leaf area index, etc. Sustained observations of ECVs play crucial roles in studying global climate changes. Remote sensing is currently the only feasible ways to estimate the ECVs at regional, continental, and/or global scales over long periods.
This session invites presentations on theory, science, technology and application studies on remote sensing of ECVs for the atmospheric, oceanic and terrestrial areas at all kinds of observation platforms. Both oral and poster presentations are sincerely welcome.
