Co-convener(s) Dr. Xiaomeng Huang (Tsinghua University, China)
Dr. Yu-heng Tseng (National Taiwan University, Taiwan)
Dr. Chan Joo Jang (Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology, Korea, South)
Dr. Enrique Curchitser (Rutgers University, United States)
Session Description The ocean and ocean-atmosphere coupled models have archived great progresses in the past several decades. The main streams of model development focus on the higher resolution modeling and better parameterizations of unresolved physical processes. Because of huge demand of computer resources for high-resolution modeling, how to use the supercomputers efficiently becomes a critical component for ocean and climate model development. This session invites contributions, but not limited to, the areas of the high-resolution ocean and coupled models development from regional to global scales (including numerical algorithm, parallel optimization, coupling techniques, modeling dynamics/physics, parameterizations) and the characteristics associated with the high-resolution model results (such as the representation of air-sea interaction and feedbacks, oceanic mesoscale/submesoscale dynamics, upwelling, boundary currents and fronts, exchanges with marginal seas, seamless prediction et al). Presentations on the high-resolution reanalysis and forecasting systems are also welcomed.
