Session Description | The low-latitude ocean spanning the western equatorial Pacific and the eastern Indian Ocean is home to a multitude of globally significant ocean-atmosphere phenomena. These include zonal (ENSO, IOD, Walker) and meridional (monsoon and Hadley) circulations, and low-latitude exchange of water masses through the Indonesian Throughflow. This Region is also affected by subsurface circulation of water masses that originate at mid-to high latitudes of both hemispheres and ultimately influence the entire tropical Indo-Pacific. This session seeks to bring together studies on the oceanography and climate dynamics of the tropical western Pacific and eastern Indian Ocean as recorded in the sedimentary, speleothem and coral archives spanning the last centuries, millennia, and up to the last glacial-interglacial cycles. Contribution on ground-truthing and proxy developments are also welcome. |
