Main Convener Prof. Tao Wang (Chinese Academy of Sciences, China)
Co-convener(s) Dr. Shaoxiu Ma (The North-west of Eco-environment and resources, China)
Prof. Lihua Zhou (Institutes of Science and Development,CAS, China)
Dr. Inez Ponce de Leon (Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines)
Session Description The AOGS home page states, “AOGS is deeply involved in addressing hazard related issues through improving our understanding of the genesis of hazards through scientific, social and technical approaches.” The link between research and policy communities is key to move from understanding to actually addressing environmental hazards. Interdisciplinary collaboration across the natural sciences and social sciences is fundamental to forging that link. Faculty members from the Chinese Academy of Sciences Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources (NIEER),the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and Institutes of Science and Development (ISD) have many years of interdisciplinary experience in addressing issues of mitigation and adaptation to environmental hazards in fields including desertification, sea level rise, food and water security and other complex issues related to climate change. Our interests extend to the applied field of governance for the science-based mitigation and adaptation. We invite other teams of natural and social scientists who face the challenges of bridging the science and policy gap to join us in bringing to this session their experience and lessons-learned in these and other geoscience areas.
