AOGS is known worldwide for promoting geosciences and public benefits for Asia and Oceania. AOGS organized six annual meetings and launched the first publication “Advances in Geosciences” in 2008. I am honored to be nominated for election to the atmospheric section president. I believe that the key aspects of the Society are its publications and its meetings, as they facilitate research, education, and training. These strengths need to be maintained and continuously analyzed to assure their effectiveness under changing environments. As the atmospheric section president, I would work with AOGS president and other section presidents on converting “Advances in Geosciences” from conference proceedings into the journal of the Society. We should be unstinting in our efforts to make “Advances in Geosciences” as a premier journal for the dissemination of research across the full spectrum of geosciences. I will also run topical conferences, workshops, and short courses in atmospheric and climatic studies for the benefit of all scientists, in particular of the younger and more recently established ones. Outreach to the general public, I would encourage more involvement of environmental hazards (such as typhoon, global warming, tsunami, earthquake, etc.) practitioners in AOGS as members, and with AOGS as promoters of worldwide improvements in risk reduction.
