Kamide Lecture Award

(Year Instituted: 2024)

Each year, each AOGS section hosts three Award Lectures: two are given by early career researchers, including post-doctoral researchers, and are titled Kamide Lectures (K-DL), while another is a Distinguished Lecture (DL). The K-DL has an age restriction of 35 years old, or no more than 7 years after earning a doctorate degree while the DL has no such restriction but be only based on the excellence of science. Any career disruption brought on by different life events—childbirth, child care, etc.—shall be taken into account when selecting K-DLs (please consult the section officers concerned when nominating a candidate who had such situation).

In the event that neither of the two K-DLs has a suitable candidate, the unfilled slot or slots stay open for that year. The sections are in charge of choosing K-DL, and the AOGS Council needs ratify this decision. Each K-DL lasts for 30 minutes, and each DL lasts for 45 minutes. The speaker benefits of DL and K-DLs are the same. There can be only one DL.

The award is named the “Kamide Lecture Award” in honour of Professor Yohsuke Kamide, one of three major founders of AOGS.

The name Kamide Lecture replaces the Early Career Researcher- Distinguished Lecture (ECR-DL) which was instituted in 2014. The Kamide Lecture Award replaces the Y Kamide Early Career Researcher (ECR) Award. In contrast to the Y Kamide ECR Award which was awarded to one of the ECR-DLs in the following year, the Kamide Lecture Award is given to all 8 sections’ Kamide Lecturers.

Approved on 29 June 2024 at AOGS Council Meeting in Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do, South Korea for implementation from 2024
